Who We Are
The Allegan Circuit Court Probation Office processes the criminal investigations and Orders of the Circuit Court with regard to felony sentences and probation supervision. There are currently 14 full-time agents, as well as a supervisor and clerical support staff. In addition to the investigations and supervision indicated, numerous other duties and responsibilities have been assigned to the office, such as transfers from other counties and other states. Investigation and supervision is often pre-confinement (jail or prison), as well as post-confinement (jail or prison) supervision in the community.
How We Become Involved
Generally speaking, at the time of a plea or conviction in Circuit Court, a Probation Officer is assigned to complete an investigation for the Court. That investigation involves numerous types of contacts and information which assist the Court in determining an appropriate sentence. Depending upon the decision made by the Court, the Probation Office is responsible to enforce Conditions of Probation. If sent to prison, the Probation Office also maintains post-prison or parole supervision in the community.
