The Veterans Relief Fund can assist Veterans who’s income is less than or equal to their expenses, who have at least one day of wartime service (actual combat duty is not a requirement), and any type of discharge other than dishonorable. This fund can assist veterans financially with emergency needs such as:

• Rent/mortgage assistance*
• Necessary utilities, heat, electricity, etc*
• Food Vouchers
• Personal needs
• Car Repairs, tires, etc.*
• Car payments**

*Must be in Veteran’s name

Things we can’t help with:

• Cable or phone bills
• Credit Card Bills
• Non essential items (i.e. air conditioning, home remodeling, etc.)

How to apply:

The Veteran Relief Fund Board meets the first Thursday of each month.
Prior to the board meeting, you must:

1. Make an appointment with one of our one of our Veteran Service Officers to schedule an interview.  (Interviews can be in person, via telephone or virtually via teleconference according to your preference)
2. Present copy of your Discharge document (DD214) with other than dishonorable discharge
3. Complete the Allegan County Veterans Relief Fund Budget Worksheet and Checklist.*
4. Present copies of all bills you are requesting assistance for and proof of all expenses*
5. Present proof of all household income*
6. Estimates for all goods and services requested*

 *Proof documentation can be scanned and sent electronically for telephone and teleconference interviews

• Applicants must provide a valid copy of DD214 showing ACTIVE DUTY with a discharge that is not dishonorable
• Applicants must meet income guidelines of 200% below poverty level*
• Applicants must provide proof of all HOUSEHOLD income (pay stubs or bank statement for direct deposit)
• Applicants must list all expenses and be prepared to provide proof upon request
