Animal Control is under the purview of the Sheriff’s Office and consists of one full time deputy and one part-time deputy. They patrol the county and respond to complaints regarding animals covered under the local county ordinance and state laws regarding animals. These complaints can include dogs running at large, animal bites and strays. They also perform kennel inspections for kennel licenses.

Members of this unit are able to enforce the local county ordinance and state laws concerning animals including issuing citations for violations.

Animal Shelter

The Animal Shelter is under the direction of County Administration and is staffed by County employees who care for the animals in the shelter and arrange for the adoption of unclaimed pets.

Non-domestic animals are the responsibility of the State of Michigan-Department of Natural Resources (D.N.R.)
