Who We Are

The Allegan County Medical Examiner’s Office (ACMEO) investigates sudden, violent, unexpected, and suspicious deaths that occur in Allegan County. The ACMEO distributes the investigative reports, autopsy reports, and toxicology results, as warranted. Also reported and handled by the ACMEO are natural deaths that occur outside of a healthcare facility in which a physician is needed to sign the death certificate. The main duties of the ACMEO are to determine the cause and manner of death and to clarify the circumstances surrounding death. Information collected during the investigation helps clarify the circumstances, such as the sequence of events prior to death. Because deaths occur around the clock, ACMEO staff members are available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Position is appointed by the County Chairman and terms run 4 years in length.
