DBA (Doing Business As)
A DBA is a Business Registration Certificate – Person Conducting Business Under Assumed Name or Co-Partnership. This document ties the name of an individual who is conducting business as a sole proprietorship or co-partnership to the name of that business. This filing is for Allegan County only. Filing
To file a DBA by mail:
- Complete the Business Registration Certificate – Person Conducting Business Under Assumed Name or Partnership form (below). Note: Be sure to check the appropriate box indicating Assumed Name or Co-Partnership.
- Sign the form in front of a notary public.
- Mail signed, notarized form to our office with the filing fee along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope - All fees are non-refundable - refer to Fee Schedule on this page.

- The form will be processed and filed upon receipt. Two certified copies will be mailed to you via return mail.
To file a DBA in person:
- Come into the office during regular business hours and complete the Business Registration Certificate – Person Conducting Business Under Assumed Name or Partnership form (below) or complete the form at our counter. Note: Be sure to check the appropriate box indicating Assumed Name or Co-Partnership.
- Sign the form in front of one of our on-staff notary publics.
Note: If there is more than one individual named on the form, all individuals must be present so that their signatures can be notarized. - Pay the filing fee – All fess are non-refundable - refer to Fee Schedule on this page.
- The form will be processed and filed.
- You will leave with your two certified copies.

To obtain a certified copy of a DBA:
DBAs are public documents, and as such, anyone can request a certified copy.
To make a request via mail:
- Send a note requesting a certified copy(s). Please include the name of the business and the owner, if known.
- Include the appropriate fee – All fees are non-refundable - refer to Fee Schedule on this page.
- Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request.
